Patrick had a highly successful academic and business career which included service as Principal of a General Further Education College, Deputy Vice Chancellor of a University and Chairman of a Health Trust Board in the North East. He also represented the region on the Council of the NHS Confederation.

He spent 10 years acting as an advisor to the European Commission and also advised private sector firms and national tourist organisations across Europe. He has written several reports for the Economist Intelligence Unit. For the past ten years he has managed his own business consultancy, which specialises in European programmes and external funding.

Patrick has also strong voluntary sector links, notably with the Prince’s Trust and with other charities based in the North East of England.
